Description

Inspired by the classic teak duckboard used in the yachting industry, Marcio Kogan’s Quadrado is a modular system of suspended square platforms designed to furnish outdoor spaces with exceptional lightness and flexibility. Inspired by Japanese Metabolist architecture of the Fifties and Sixties, its modular volumes create a dynamic furnishing system that invites informal and original compositions.

The wooden platforms accommodate comfortable padded seats with backrests in wicker-effect fibre, available in Mud or Liquorice. The seating elements are interspersed with wooden surfaces featuring trays or candle holders, which can be freely arranged to create a distinctive interlocking effect. A circular armchair completes the collection, while 102×102 cm and compact 87×87 cm modules allow Quadrado to adapt to residential, urban and Hospitality settings. The collection is completed by the generous 242×180 cm Quadrado double daybed, designed as an intimate and comfortable outdoor nest. Its niche-like structure features a teak duckboard backrest and armrests, a large mattress and soft, enveloping cushions, supported by two Bronze metal crosspieces.

Structure: Metal backrest and armrests subjected to three processing phases: sand blasting, zinc primer for outdoor use (facilitates and improves adhesion of the finish paint) with polyester powder coat for outdoor use in polished Pewter color finish. The metal structure is covered in a wickereffect braided 5 mm Ø fibre; available in the following colors: Mud and Licorice.

Cushions: Seat and backrest cushions in high resilience polyurethane foam and eco-friendly, waterproof fibre. To provide greater protection from water and moisture for the padding, all the cushions are covered in water-repellent polyester fabric. All the accessories – hinges, yarn – are waterproof and therefore suitable for outdoor use.

Base: In solid teak (Tectona Grandis - First European Quality), 40 mm thick, natural finish, kiln-dried. Worked on CNC machines, assembled at 45° with finger joints reinforced with dowel pins. Underframe in metal painted for outdoor use. Woven elastic webbing for outdoor use in UVresistant synthetic rubber and polypropylene.

Designer

Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27

The partnership between Minotti and Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan began in 2017. Marcio Kogan approached the world of architecture and opened the Studio MK27 in São Paolo at the end of the seventies: volcanic and rigorous, attentive to the pure volumes and simple shapes of his designs, as well as the details and finishes, he favours open, squared architectures - which aesthetically and stylistically merge in and out - characterised by floor-to-ceiling windows that erase the boundary with the outdoors.

With a design style inspired by nature, the warm woods of his homeland, and the clean lines of his architectural works, in 2018, he created the Quadrado outdoor seating system for Minotti, approaching the world of design with brilliance for the first time.
